YYD - YDL

The severe clear conditions on takeoff from Smithers continued as we headed northwest to to Dease Lake. What a difference from the murk yesterday; we congratulated ourselves on our decision to wait a day. These peaks, seen through the side window, were about an hour out. Nice, but it makes us appreciate what we have in our own back yard. Our cross-country flights over the Selkirks and Purcells are equally spectacular!

What did strike us, the farther north we flew, is the absence of a human footprint below. Near Dease Lake it was striking to see a rail line along the valley bottom. It was an attempt - long abandoned - by BC Rail and the provincial government to open up this area.
Also remarkable was the 6,000 ft paved runway at Dease Lake. What's the reason for this Mike, other than emergency?

  1. Glad to hear you arrived in Whitehorse safely. You missed the lightning, thunder and torrents of rain which came down last night. All's quiet in this end of town! Will look forward to hearing more of your wonderful adventure!

  2. Where's that bear, Monica? He'd knocked down major branches of the Saskatoon bushes before we left; next in line was the tayberries. Hope he's discovered your yummies on the other side of the road!
