Seeds for our Yukon Flight 2010 were sown last July when Bill and I attended the Canadian Pilots and Owner's Association (COPA) annual conference in Springbank, Alberta. As we arrived, so did a well-organized group of 100+ other small planes, destined for Sydney, Nova Scotia. They had departed that morning from Boundary Bay, B.C.This 14 day, 7-air-leg journey was organized by veteran TV producer John Lovelace and his company Century of Flight, to commemorate Canadian aviation in the hundred years since the Silver Dart lifted off a frozen lake in NS.
Participants came from all over North America, and flew everything from a 2-seater home-built to twin-engine Cessnas and Pipers. We've always been horrified by group tours - bus, foot or cruise ship - but we could see how well this one worked. Air traffic control, parking and fuelling logistics, transportation to accommodation, briefings, interesting side trips (fly-outs), social events etc. were all part of the package.
Great start Mom!
